Rome
As well as for the world history, Rome played a very important role in the Italian golf history. The oldest Italian course is Acquasanta Golf, located maybe on the "new" Via Appia, alongside the old one. In countryside as lazy and as peaceful as this, it is hard to believe you are so close to the center of Rome. The view from the aqueduct that carried spring water to the capital of the Roman empire is a constant reminder of the history that surrounds this part of Italy. The Acquasanta course is all part of it, being the oldest club in Italy and above all, it is a great old-style course in a superb setting.
Other 10 championship courses surround the city, some of them were much acclaimed hosting several World Cups, Le Quercie Golf in 1991 and Olgiata Golf in 1968 and 1984 - it also host the Italian Open in 2002. A lot of "Amen" challenges and a natural state of affairs being so close to the Holy City.
